The Bead inductor is specially used to suppress high-frequency noise and peak interference on signal lines and power lines, and also has the ability to absorb electrostatic pulses. Magnetic beads are used [1] to absorb ultra-high frequency signals, like some RF circuits, PLL, oscillating circuits, including ultra-high frequency memory circuits (DDRSDRAM, RAMBUS, etc.) need to add magnetic beads in the power input part, and inductors are a kind of energy storage components, used in LC oscillating circuits, low-frequency filter circuits, etc. Its application frequency range rarely exceeds 50MHZ. Magnetic beads have high resistivity and permeability, equivalent to resistance and inductance in series, but the resistance value and inductance value vary with frequency.
The key of magnetic beads and inductors in EMI and EMC circuits is to suppress high-frequency conducted interference signals, and also to suppress inductors. However, from the principle point of view, the magnetic bead can be equivalent to an inductor, which is equivalent to a certain difference, the biggest difference is that the inductor coil has a distributed capacitance. Therefore, an inductor is equivalent to an inductor in parallel with a distributed capacitor. As shown in Figure 1. In Figure 1, LX is the equivalent inductance (ideal electrical inductance) of the inductor coil, RX is the equivalent resistance of the coil, and CX is the distributed capacitance of the inductor.
If we want to further increase the suppression frequency, then the inductor we finally choose will have to be its minimum limit value, only 1 circle or less than 1 circle. Magnetic bead, that is, through the core inductor, is an inductor with a number of turns less than 1 turn. However, the distribution capacitance of the through-core inductor is several times to dozens of times smaller than that of the single-turn inductor, so the through-core inductor operates at a higher frequency than the single-turn inductor.
Theoretically, to suppress the conducted interference signal, the larger the inductance quantity of the suppressed inductor, the better, but for the inductor coil, the larger the inductance quantity, the larger the distributed capacitance of the inductor coil, and the roles of the two will cancel each other.
Another use of magnetic beads is to do electromagnetic shielding, its electromagnetic shielding effect is better than the shielding effect of the shielding line, which is generally not paid much attention to. The method of use is to let a pair of wires pass through the middle of the magnetic bead, so when there is a current flowing from the double wire, the magnetic field generated will be mostly concentrated in the magnetic bead body, the magnetic field will not radiate out; Because the magnetic field will produce eddy currents in the magnetic bead body, the direction of the eddy current generation power line is opposite to the direction of the conductor surface power line, which can cancel each other, therefore, the magnetic bead also has a shielding effect on the electric field, that is, the magnetic bead has a strong shielding effect on the electromagnetic field in the conductor.
